Power Grid Integration and Use-Case Study of Acid-Base Flow Battery Technology

2021

There are many different types of energy storage systems (ESS) available and the functionality that they can provide is extensive. However, each of these solutions come with their own set of drawbacks. The acid-base flow battery (ABFB) technology aims to provide a route to a cheap, clean and safe ESS by means of providing a new kind of energy storage technology based on reversible dissociation of water via bipolar electrodialysis. First, the main characteristics of the ABFB technology are described briefly to highlight its main advantages and drawbacks and define the most-competitive use-case scenarios in which the technology could be applied, as well as analyze the particular characteristi…

Optimal Design of Grid Integration of a Net Zero Energy Building trough Electrochemical Energy Storage and Fuel Cell Utilization

2018

The integration of electrochemical energy storage, renewable energy production, and fuel cell systems can play a key role in the development of more efficient eco-friendly systems, spanning all sectors of energy management, from stationary to mobile. In particular, residential sector consumed 19% of worldwide energy production in 2015, resulting the third energivorous sector after transport and industry. Distributed energy systems, which efficiently use local resources, can reduce problems in regions with lack of a stable network and more in general help the growth of a sustainable development. In this case, the impact of PV-Lithium Batteries-SOFC integration in a NZEB (Net Zero Energy Buil…

Power dispatching of active generators using droop control in grid connected micro-grid

2014

Masteroppgave i fornybar energi ENE 500 Universitetet i Agder 2014 Renewable energy promises a green energy future for the world. However, many technical problems still have to be solved. Almost all renewable energy sources require power electronic converters for power processing and therefore inverter control systems and power dispatching strategies are significant in renewable energy applications. The existing electricity grid architecture is based on centralized power generations while most renewable power generations are distributed and connected to lower or medium voltage networks. Some of important renewable energy resources such as solar and wind power are intermittent in nature. Thi…
